State Police Confirm Officer Involved Shooting in Lafayette
A man was shot multiple times near a gas station along the Evangeline Thruway in Lafayette. Our media partners at KATC-TV 3 first reported shots fired near the Shell gas station near the intersection of US Hwy 90 and Willow Street.
Few details have been confirmed by law enforcement, but a video has surfaced on social media that shows a man allegedly carrying a large knife near a gas station and then being shot by police. The video starts with a black male wearing a white shirt walking in the roadway toward the gas station. Eyewitnesses can be heard talking about a knife the man was carrying. A group of officers is then seen following the man as he appears to try and open the gas station door. That's when multiple shots were fired.
Due to the graphic nature of the video, we have decided not to publish the unedited video here. Police are asking that you avoid the area at this time as the area is closed for information. It is a law enforcement protocol that Louisiana State Police take over the investigation of any officer-involved shootings.
The condition of the victim is not known at this time.
We will continue to follow this developing story and update you here as more information becomes available.
