Is there a more storied cocktail than the Martini? I think not. This iconic combination of ingredients which often includes Gin or Vodka combined with Vermouth has graced movie screens, television shows, first dates, and again this year Hope for Grieving Children.

You didn't see that last one coming, did you?

Well, the martini has played a major part in the fundraising efforts of a local charity, Healing House. The mission of Healing House is to provide hope for children who have experienced the loss of a parent or sibling. And again this year, as in the past several years, Healing House is once again hosting Martinis 2020, the search for Lafayette's best martini.

Last night the official ceremonial martini glass for this year's event was unveiled. The glass, designed by local artist Lauren Sibley Brasseaux features a floral motif. Brasseaux explained that she chose flowers because flowers are often given as a show of support during times of grief.

If you'd like to participate in the program and toss in your two cents for who has Lafayette's Best Martini the fun will start on July 20th. Each week between July 20th and August 15th different martinis from some of Acadiana's best restaurants will be featured.

You can even visit the Healing House website to print money-saving coupons and find out which restaurants are serving what martini. Because of concerns over the coronavirus pandemic special arrangements have been made to accommodate curbside and to-go orders.

This year's event will not feature voting or trophies as it has in year's past. Organizers with Healing House say Martinis 2020 is all about showcasing the local restaurants that have supported their mission through these many years.

Martinis 2020 is proudly supported by this Townsquare Media Radio Station, Three Olives Vodka, Neighbors Pharmacy, Delhomme Funeral Homes, Moss Motors, and Linear Controls.
