Residents Pack Meeting on Proposed Extension of Curran Lane

The Lafayette City Planning Commission meeting was packed on Monday as developers for a proposed development and residents of nearby subdivisions of Bell Heights and Orgeron Heights met to discuss the proposed extension of Curran Lane.

Aldi, a national discount supermarket, is looking to build a store near the intersection of Curran Lane and Ambassador Caffery Parkway, right across the street from Walmart. Residents of the nearby subdivisions expressed their concerns about the extension, citing flooding risks and increased heavy traffic.

Residents at the meeting were responding to a flier that said,

"The City of Lafayette wants the developer to then connect the Curran Lane extension with Orgeron Drive which would then open Curran Lane traffic to travel through Orgeron and subsequently funnel traffic through the connecting streets in our neighborhood."

But that was rejected at the meeting as Commissioners struck that part from the unanimously approved measure.
