Each day across the state of Louisiana, school students are getting back to their classes. For some kids it may be their first time at school; for others, maybe they are returning as seniors to "rule the school".

Students are never alone as teachers, administration officials and school resource officers are always in attendance.

In Plaquemines Parish, resource officers that are deputies have been waiting so patiently for the school year to start because of their love for the kids. I think that can be said of every resource officer working in a school across Louisiana. These deputies protect and serve because of their love of young people.

One thing people might not consider is how much these deputies miss the people they protect. What kinds of things do you do to prepare for a new school year?

You have to be totally ready. These ladies were sharpening some pencils, and flipping through files, but as the start of school was drawing near they had to get even more serious; they started going over all the basics.

You can tell by their choice of song (which we do not own the rights to) that they are so happy to be able to get back into the school routine with students. The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office has a few teams of resource officers who are dedicated to the children who are in our public schools.

Just like in any parish, it's great to know that deputies are always there to protect and serve the public.
