Deputies with the Lafayette Sheriff's Department arrested a man early Saturday morning at Lafayette Regional Airport. In layman's terms, the individual was in a place where he was not supposed to be. The individual, according to reports, was found in a secure area near an aircraft at the time he was detained.

Deputies identified the man as Adani Fuentes-Ardiano. He is now facing one charge of Unauthorized Entry into a Critical Infrastructure. Bond for Fuentes-Ardiano had not been set as of this report.

Adani Fuentes-Ardiano is accused of violating Louisiana Statute RS 14:61. That statue makes it illegal for an individual to enter a critical structure or enter on to any secure premises that are completely enclosed by any type of physical barrier, according to KATC Television.

The KATC report went on to explain that critical infrastructure includes airports, chemical plants, refineries, and other transportation terminals.

Deputies from Lafayette Parish were assisted in the arrest by agents of the Department of Homeland Security. Special Agent in Charge Gilbert Trill told KATC,

HSI takes the protection and security of our nation’s critical infrastructure seriously and we stand ready to respond day and night to that mission. Our agents are committed to working alongside our law enforcement partners to safeguard our nation’s communities and assets.

As of now, there has been no reason given why Fuentes-Ardiano was in the secured area. However, the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Fuentes-Ardiano has been booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Facility.
