Louisiana's Mardi Gras season is fully underway, and everyone is jockeying to get the best throws. We have the secrets to making that happen.

One of the biggest pieces of advice from mardigrastraditions.com is to ensure you stand out in the crowd. You need to do whatever you can to get the people's attention while riding on the floats.

Wearing a costume that is unique, one that is lit up for night-time viewing and or even a hat that is extremely decorative are just a few of the things you can do to help yourself stand out among the other folks trying to catch the same stuff you are.

They pay a lot of money to ride on these floats and even more for the items they throw into the crowd. They will look for extraordinary signsthe more outrageous, the better!

Someone riding on a float will want to prove you wrong, so they will try repeatedly to hit your sign. If your friends and family surround you, they will also benefit from your sign. Be prepared to hold your sign in one hand and catch it with your other.

Not Standing Right At The Barricades Can Mean More Beads

If you are standing right at the barricades, you might not present much of a challenge to a rider on a Mardi Gras float.

They might even overlook you and send stuff flying right over your head! Awww, sad!!!

The people in the picture above will catch a ton of beads, and they have left hanging onto the barricades for the kids. Usually, the kids flocked to the barricades to stand on as it gave them more height to wave at the float riders!

Keep Your Clothes On At A Parade

Flipping your shirt up to get some beads on Bourbon Street always happens at Mardi Gras in New Orleans, but you don't need to do that at a parade in Acadiana.

The last thing you want is to get arrested or issued a citation for a bead or other item that may cost 50 cents.

Keep your decorum, get creative with the above items, and add to the excitement. These tips will surely get you the best items at Mardi Gras parades.
