(Lafayette, Louisiana) - Times are tough for so many people in Louisiana, so I thought that I'd look up where the richest and poorest towns are in Louisiana, and some may recognize these places.

With the prices of gasoline and groceries these days, so many people are struggling to just make ends meet, so much so that many are now seeking a second form of revenue to support themselves and their families.'

And if you drive around the Bayou State, you can see whcih towns or cities are prospering and which are struggling.

I recently drove through some of the upper parts of Acadiana, and I was shocked to see how many small businesses have closed in areas that were once doing so well. Small towns in our area are struggling to attract new industries, and many people are leaving rural areas to seek better jobs elsewhere.

That said, you'd hope struggling communities rebound once inflation begins to recede, but who knows when that will be? Until then, communities and their people will continue to struggle each and every day.

So, let's look at the small town that is reportedly the poorest in our state. According to 24 Wall St., with a median household income of only $12,358, the unfortunate recognition goes to Urania, Louisiana, in central Louisiana, one of the oldest towns in Louisiana.

Nearly 40% of Urania's residents receive government assistance. Other small rural towns on the list that are struggling financially are Lake Providence, Ville Platte, Bastrop, and Natchitoches.

On the other hand, the richest town in Louisiana, based on the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau and economic rankings, is Lewisburg in St. Tammany Parish. Lewisburg's median household income is $162,958.

When it comes to property value in this small town, the median home value is $556,800.

Another prospering town is Gills, cited as the richest community by average household income, at a massive $342,103. However, it is a tiny, unincorporated community with a population of only about 700 people.

So, as the numbers show, while some communities and their citizens are doing well in Louisiana, others are struggling, and when you drive through many of them, it is clear which areas of the state need help.

To be fair, income numbers change quite a bit over the years, and towns that were struggling have made some progress recently, while others that weren't struggling only seem to get richer.
