Mardi Gras is here in south Louisiana and so many people are preparing for the traditional Courir de Mardi Gras in places like Mamou, Eunice, and Church Point.

In some rural places, property owners along the run donate chickens for the gumbo after the run, but those taking part in the countryside run have to catch the chicken first, which makes for great memories and content on social media.

However, with the price of eggs at an all-time high, chickens are very valuable these days, so we ask, will property owners along the run in 2025 toss chickens for the chase? If chickens are that valuable, why would anyone risk losing them?

And if they elect to not toss chickens for the Courir de Mardi Gras, what will they use for the chase and run? Well, I've seen some alternate chickens with guineas, the only problem is they are a lot faster and can end up in places that those running Mardi Gras may not be able to reach.

So, if you are one to follow the run in places like Church Point, Iota, Mamou, and Eunice and you notice that there aren't many chickens being used for the chase this year, it's because property owners understand the value of having chickens in 2025.

Let's take a look at a few runs from previous years and property owners donate chickens for the gumbo after.
