As budget discussions begin at Lafayette Consolidated Government, the issue of funding for the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center has taken center stage. It also brings up more questions about the status of a lawsuit filed by Lafayette Parish Sheriff Mark Garber over funding for the jail. About two weeks ago, KPEL's Bernadette Lee asked Mayor-President Josh Guillory for an update on the lawsuit and the opinion of the LCG legal team. That status update was sent to KPEL News and is posted below.

The conclusion, which can be found on page 5 of the document below, seems to state that LCG is only responsible for city inmates. LCG is apparently not responsible for the Department of Corrections inmates or inmates of the US Marshal's Office. The report, which is signed by City-Parish Attorney Gregory Logan, notes that several other parishes have pending litigation on the same issue.
