Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department were called out to the 100 of Harrison Street around 4:30 Sunday morning to investigate a shooting death.

As officers arrived on the scene it was found that there was a crime scene.

Sergeant Robin Green, Public Information Officer for the police department, says the victim had already been taken to the hospital by private means.

Medical officials gave treatment to the victim, but the person succumbed to their injuries from the shooting.

While on the scene, police officials maintained the shooting area as a crime scene. From that point, detectives began their investigation to determine exactly what happened at the scene.

What happened in relation to the shooting is not being released at this time, but investigators are working to get all the details surrounding the shooting death.
