Krewe of Rio Mardi Gras Parade Roll Through Rain Soaked Streets in Lafayette
The annaul Krewe of Rio Mardi Gras parade rolled through Lafayette Saturday night, and the rain didn't bother some paradegoers.
Floats, marching bands, and other attractions started their journey near downtown Lafayette and ultimately rolled down Johnston Street. Unfortunately, the conditions in Lafayette were not ideal for a parade, but that didn't seem to bother some along the parade route.
While the rain came down for the entire time the parade rolled past us, and at times it was hard, but that didn't stop the kids from having a blast while attempting to catch their favorite beads and throws.
Speaking of throws and entertainment for the Rio parade, I applaud those who braved the elements on and off the floats because not only was the rain heavy at times, it was cold.
To the marching bands, dance teams, and others walking the parade route in the rain, you are the true champions. Like the kids along the route, many marching or walking in the rain did not seem bothered and they made the most of the situation.
Overall, this was a great parade and a long parade. Job well done by those who put this together and we can't wait for Rio next year.
Here are a few photos from the Krewe of Rio parade Saturday night in Lafayette. Check out the conditions as the parade rolled.
And yes, we caught this gumbo pack that was thrown from a float, which we will put to good use.
The "Cotton Candy Man" was working in the rain, and we caught up with him near the downtown Lafayette streets. Look for him at all the parades this Mardi Gras season..
