(Church Point, Louisiana) - There's a lot of excitement in the air for Halloween, and several communities are starting the fun early this year. Unfortunately, one community is now being forced to cancel Halloween festivities.

The Town of Church Point's Halloween Parade was scheduled for this weekend, but the Church Point Police Department says the parade that many were looking forward to has been canceled.

No, the parade has not been canceled due to security concerns; it has been canceled due to the threat of severe weather this weekend.

Severe thunderstorms are expected to move across Acadiana on Saturday and Sunday, with some storms predicted to drop a couple of inches of rain and produce damaging winds. The Town of Church Point has no option but to cancel its Halloween Parade this weekend.

We will be monitoring the weather all weekend in Acadiana, and if there are any alerts that you should be aware of, you will get information on air and on this station's mobile app.

In addition, if any other events are canceled this weekend due to the storm threat, we will share that information with you here and across all social media platforms.

We encourage you to stay weather-aware this weekend, as some storms are expected to be dangerous. Remember: if you hear thunder, there's lightning in the vicinity.

Here's the unfortunate announcement from the Church Point Police Dept.

Sadly, we just received word of another great event being canceled this weekend due to the threat of severe weather.
