Single Ticket Wins $478 Million Powerball – Louisiana Lottery

Our sources at the Louisiana Lottery offices in Baton Rouge have confirmed a major Powerball Lottery win from Wednesday night's drawing. Based on information from the Louisiana Lottery and from Powerball we can confirm that a single ticket sold for the October 23, 2024 Powerball drawing matched all the numbers needed to claim the game's top prize.

Wednesday's Powerball jackpot had been building since August 12th of this year. That's when a single ticket sold in Pennsylvania matched the numbers needed to claim the game's top prize at the time of $213.8 million.

If you're not familiar with the Powerball multi-state lottery game it is played in 45 states, the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. The cost of a Powerball ticket is $2. A player may opt for the Power Play option for an extra dollar. The  Power Play is a multiplier that is drawn at random during each Powerball drawing.

The white balls in the Powerball game range from 1 to 69 and each player must select five of those numbers. The "red" Powerballs range from 1 to 26 and a player chooses one Powerball number per ticket. Of course, most players let the computer make a "quick pick" when purchasing their tickets.

As we mentioned one ticket sold for Wednesday's drawing matched all the numbers needed to earn the jackpot prize of an estimated $478.2 million. Based on information from the Georgia Lottery it appears as though that big winner was sold in the Peach State.

But that wasn't the game's only big win last night.

For the third night in a row, a multi-state lottery game has made a new millionaire in Texas. The Texas Lottery has confirmed a Match 5 Million winner in the Lone Star State for last night's drawing. That million-dollar winner was sold in Cypress, Texas at the Kroger on Barker Cypress Road.

Powerball game officials also confirmed a Match 5 Million winner was sold in Pennsylvania for the October 23rd drawing. Meanwhile, the Louisiana Lottery has confirmed that Lady Luck was not kind to Louisiana last night.

The largest Louisiana prize generated from Wednesday's Powerball game was $200. Six tickets sold in the state earned that prize. Another 14 tickets sold for the drawing earned a prize of $100. The Powerball jackpot will return to its official starting point of $20 million when the game draws for its next prize on Saturday night.

The Louisiana Lottery also revealed there were no jackpot prize winners in Wednesday's other draw games, namely Lotto and Easy 5. The Lotto jackpot on Saturday will climb to an estimated $675,000 while Easy 5 will offer a top prize of $110,000 on Saturday night.
