If Your COVID-19 Face Mask Has One of These, the NIST Says STOP
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) along with officials in the U.S. have preached for some time now about the importance of wearing a face mask as protection from COVID-19. Masks when you leave the house along with washing your hands regularly and social distancing are the three ingredients necessary to keep you and your family protected from the Coronavirus. However, if you are using one type of mask for protection, you should stop immediately.
COVID-19 cases are rising in the U.S. and that includes Louisiana. In some states, COVID-19 cases have risen to record numbers for the year. Some states have gone into COVID-19 lockdown once again. Now more than ever, it is imperative to protect yourself and others.
New research from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) proves that you should NOT be wearing a face mask with a ventilation valve. BestLifeOnline.com is reporting that NIST used special imaging technology to see the effectiveness of a regular N95 mask compared to one with a ventilator valve. The regular mask stopped nearly100% of droplets from passing through. Meanwhile, masks outfitted with a ventilator valve offered nearly zero protection.
Aside from a Coronavirus vaccine, masks currently offer the greatest protection for you in a situation where you are around other people. They're simple to use, inexpensive and effective.
