Was I worried it wouldn't be a success?  Yup!  Reason being:  bad tires.  My bicycle has been sitting in the barn for 5 years now, with NO maintenance.  I used compressed air to spray off the dust and cobwebs, then aired up the tires, adjusted the seat, and hit the road.

The tires are rotting, the brake pads are glazed, most of the smaller metallic parts are showing signs of deterioration;  in short, the bike is looking as good as I do!  We only went around the block, and the tires held out, but I need to change them before I even think about going to Sunday Mass!

With the nice weather upon us, take time to make sure that your bike can pass a simple safety test before you take to the road.  The Lafayette Consolidated Government even has a Bicycle Safety page!
