The heat is on.

As we enter the early portion of summer, we expect the temperatures to be on the rise, but must it really be this hot in June?

KATC Chief Meteorologist Rob Perillo recently released his heat indices extended forecast and when I saw the numbers on the graphic, I thought it was a typo.

Well, I was wrong and it is about to get really hot for all of us in south Louisiana.

According to Rob's numbers, by this weekend the heat index in Acadiana may exceed 110. Now, this isn't the actual temperature, but it will feel every bit like 110 or higher.

The heat wave is sitting idol above much of the south, and there isn't much rain in the forecast to cool you and me off.

I share this with you to remind you to take care of yourself if you're going to be outdoors this week and even into the Father's Day weekend.

You should also take care of any animals or pets that may be outdoors. Please make sure that they have plenty of shade and water, they're going to need it.

One more thing, please DO NOT leave anyone or anything in your vehicle. Slow down and make certain that you aren't exiting your vehicle this summer without evaluating your backseat.

Do your best to stay cool and stay hydrated because these numbers on the graphic below are brutal.
