Lafayette Business Owner Rescues Owl Behind Business
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - A Lafayette business owner is being applauded for rescuing an owl that he found on the ground near his business.
Our friend Billy Guilbeaux from Twin's Burgers and Sweets posted a video of him and another man, Karl, behind the business and in an alley, as they rescued a small owl. The bird was spotted on the ground, and Billy knew he had to do something, so he took to social media to ask what to do with it.
He says in the video that he was hangin' on to life and knew they had to do something fast, so they put the small owl in a box to warm it back up and took it to a local veterinary clinic.
The staff at Lafayette Veterinary Clinic then contacted the folks at Acadiana Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation, Inc. to take in the small owl, and they did. According to their comment under the video, Billy posted, the owl found is an adult Eastern Screech-Owl.
Eastern Screech-Owl Information
These small owls are often found in forested areas or parks with plenty of trees. They are known to even next in boxes that people buiild and mount in their yards.
While they are beautiful, these small owls can be frightening at night because of their loud screech, which often catches you off guard.
Acccording to All About Birds, 'Eastern Screech-Owl pairs usually are monogamous and remain together for life. Some males, however, will mate with two different females. The second female may evict the first female, lay her own eggs in the nest, and incubate both clutches."
As for a food source, these small owls prey on small songbirds, so if you see birds acting aggressively in your yard, that could be a sign that one of these screech owls is lurking there.
Now, back to the owl that was found on the ground in Lafayette, it was diagnosed with severe head trauma and hypothermia. Luckily, the staff was able to warm up the owl, and it received medication for the head trauma.
Watch as the two men find the owl, pray over it, and then relocate it into a box before transporting it to a clinic. This owl owes its life to these two men, and perhaps it will return to the bakery one day to thank them.
