In the world of Mardi Gras foods King Cake is the traditional go to goodie. It's a delightful pastry stuffed with your choices of fillings. Those fillings can be a number of different fruits, chocolates, or traditional cinnamon.

Now, what if you combined these two unique foods and made a whole new Mardi Gras, Cajun, tradition? That's what's happened and the boudin king cake is currently the hot new trend this Mardi Gras season.

The cake itself is a savory bread stuffed with boudin. The cake is then topped with another Louisiana favorite, Steen's Cane Syrup. The cake is also topped with a sprinkle of cracklin'. Many have said this may be the most Cajun food ever.

The cake was the inspiration of University of Louisiana at Lafayette professor Bob Carriker. Carriker whose food blogs and have helped spread the word about the boudin king cake says bakeries from across the state and the nation have contacted him about getting permission to recreate this unique recipe.

We're literally seeing it from New Orleans to Shreveport to Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles. It's incredible.

Carriker's remarks were reported by the Louisiana Radio Network.
