Bids Out For Lafayette’s Next Roundabout

Another congested intersection in Lafayette is about to get the roundabout treatment. Officials with the Acadiana Planning Commission say that bids went out last week for a proposed roundabout at Girard Park Drive and Hospital Drive.

If you've ever driven in that part of town near Girard Park you know how traffic tends to bottleneck at that location. That's why officials targeted the intersection for a roundabout several years ago.

The anticipated cost of the project is $1.5 million. There has been no timetable released on when construction would begin or the project would be completed. We do know that portions of both roadways affected by the construction will have to be closed at some time during the construction process.
