Drivers in Lafayette Are Putting Themselves and Others in Danger
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - Drivers in Lafayette seem to always be in a hurry, and one bad habit on the roads in Lafayette is putting others in danger.
Sure, we know that many people in Lafayette still run red lights, to the point that the Lafayette Police Department is once again monitoring busy intersections this holiday season. Still, I have noticed a new infraction that many drivers are committing.
You're probably thinking that if it's not running red lights, it has to be drivers not stopping at stop signs. While that is true, some still don't think they have to come to a complete stop at stop signs; that's not the traffic violation I am talking about, either.
For some odd reason, there are drivers in Lafayette who think it's fine to do a U-turn on a busy road. Yes, in recent weeks, I have seen several drivers make U-turns on busy roads like Ambassador Caffery, Kaliste Saloom, and Congress Street in Lafayette.
Often, when I see drivers execute these U-turns, they're in the outer lane, which means they are crossing another lane of traffic and then entering the turning lanes to maneuver into the opposite lanes.
This is so scary to see, and I hope that this soon stops before someone gets hurt. Again, I know that we are all in a hurry these days, but we need to be more mindful when driving through Lafayette.
I bring this hope to remind you that you have to be defensive when driving through cities like Lafayette now. Keep all eyes on the road and limit the distractions in your vehicle while out on the roadways this holiday season.
Also, remember to always buckle up on the road; after all, it is the law, and seatbelts save lives in crashes.
