The legendary Adam West has died at the age of 88.

Few actors are still known and loved for TV shows they starred in 50 plus years ago. Adam West was one of those rarities, still beloved for his short but unforgettable stint as The Caped Crusader in the 1960s Batman TV show.

West was typecast as Batman and as a result, had difficulty finding work. Thankfully, many of the legions of fans who grew up loving his work entered the TV or movie industries themselves and gave West's career new life. Not unlike William Shatner, West soon became known to younger audiences not as Batman, but as Mayor Adam West on Family Guy or for his numerous voice work in cartoons and other projects.

West finally received the due he deserved from his peers when he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012. West died peacefully, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Here are highlights of West's time as Batman:

Here's the full pilot episode of a TV show written for West by Conan O'Brien in the 90s. Would've been a lot of fun if it had been picked up as a series.
