In celebration of National Hospital Week, Opelousas General Health System will host the 8th annual Community Health Fair on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at OGHS’ South Campus in Opelousas from 8 – 11 AM.

Free screenings, tests and other medical information will be provided by area health care businesses throughout St. Landry in addition to OGHS.

Featured screenings include: cholesterol, glucose, lung function, blood pressure, vision including glaucoma, balance, hearing, body composition, sleep disorders, grip strength, cardiovascular, depression, metabolic age and more. A demonstration of the ‘Hands Only’ CPR procedure will also be provided.

The newest OGHS physicians will be on hand with health information and screenings. Lifeshare Blood Center will take blood donations and perform anemia screenings. Presentations from the Louisiana State Fire Marshall and the Opelousas Fire Department will also take place to demonstrate fire safety. Programs will also be offered by Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries, Community Medical Research, and others.

Visit the Pink Booth to find out if you qualify for a free mammogram and pick up breast health educational material. Free body mass index readings and counseling will be available along with nutrition, wellness and other health information.

There will also be a “Kid’s Corner” with activities and educational sessions for children sponsored by the Youth Leadership Council of the Opelousas/St. Landry Chamber of Commerce. Various door prizes will be given away throughout the morning.
