Looking for fun for the entire family this July 4th? Be sure to check out 'Red, White & BOOM!' at Parc International, Parc Sans Souci and Parc Putnam in Downtown Lafayette. The gates open at 5:00pm and will begin with water slides, face painting, arts and crafts, balloon animals, costume contests and more water-filled fun.

You can stuff your face in the 2nd annual Hot Dog Eating Contest, enjoy a performance from Grammy nominee Marcia Ball and the Acadiana Symphony, even a chance to win a 2012 Mercedes!

The evening wraps up with the city of Lafayette's only in-town Grand Finale Fireworks show starting at 9:30

You can get into all three areas for only $5. If you like to be an early-bird, advance tickets can be purchased in advance at the ASO box office located at 412 Travis St. in the Oil Center. Tickets will also be available at the gate the day of the event. This event will help out quite a few causes in the Lafayette area.  Food Net of Lafayette is teaming up with ASO to offer free concession tickets for canned food donations brought to the event. All proceeds from the event will benefit ASO's children's education programs. Be sure to bring your canned goods and help out a worthy cause, plus get hooked up with food tickets for yourself!

As for parking, the general rules apply, get there early. the parking tower will be your best bet, based on proximity to the parks and number of spots available. Once those parking spots are gone, you'll have to take a little walk in order to get to the gate, so wear comfortable shoes.

Another handy tip is to bring an umbrella. Umbrellas aren't just for rain, they can provide some much needed shade when you're out in the parks before the sun goes down.
