Funny Father’s Day Poem Written By Debbie Ray in Third Grade
After Hurricane Katrina, I was looking through some old photos and clippings my Mother had saved in a box that was rescued from my parents' house in the New Orleans area. Among the many newspaper clippings of my brothers' accomplishments as high school and college athletes, I found a card that I had made for my Dad one Father's Day long ago. I think I must have been in the third grade at the time. I remember writing the rhymes and then cutting out and coloring the tie-shaped card and placing a sticker from a McKenzie's cake on the front, then carefully transferring the words from my notebook to the inside of the card. I still can't believe it was saved for all those years.
And yes, even though I'm a middle-aged married woman, I'll always be Daddy's girl!
