Dead Birds In Duson. Is It West Nile?
More than 30 birds were found dead in Duson on Tuesday. and as of now no one knows why. The birds had no gunshot wounds or evidence of other injuries. The birds were found near a cane field.
James Wing made the discovery.
"I came here this morning and saw birds all over the ground. One of them fell when I was walking around the property. I thought maybe it was West Nile. It was the first thing that popped in my head because they say, you see a dead bird you think it's West Nile."
A state biologist was called in to investigate. About 30 of the dead birds were collected for testing in Baton Rouge.
Despite all the stormy and unusual weather, The Wildlife and Fisheries biologist says the recent inclement weather was probably not a factor in the deaths. They're anticipating test results to provide a clue by Thursday.
