It's often said there's an "Andretti Curse" at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Marco, his father Michael, and Grandfather Mario Andretti have competed in a combined total of 53 "500's", with only one win among them. The lone victory came in 1969, when Patriarch Mario drank the traditional milk. All three generations have qualified well, and run strongly, only to be thwarted by crashes & mechanical failures. The 98th Indianapolis 500 is this Sunday. Racer.com reports Marco is the favorite. He qualified sixth, which places him on the outside of the third row on the starting grid. Oddsmakers have Marco a 5-1 favorite. Three time 500 winner, and "Dancing With The Stars" champion, Helio Castroneves is 6-1, while polesitter Ed Carpenter is at 8-1. Last year's winner Tony Kanaan is 15-1. When I was a kid, I had a huge poster of Mario's '69 victory on my bedroom wall. I'll be rooting for his grandson.
