(99.9 KTDY) - Lafayette is an amazing place to live, and our neighbors in Acadiana are just as delightful. People in our area are also canaille, and we love to play pranks. A good laugh in Acadiana is just like medicine to us.

One of the more interesting stories is about items or objects that were once in a stationary place but disappeared overnight. Everyone loves to share these stories!

28 Pairs of Shoes Were Stolen in Lafayette

One story about stolen items involved someone who made off with 28 pairs of shoes from a shoe store in Lafayette.

This shoe caper happened back in 2024 at Kohl's on Ambassador Caffery. This was a case that no one was laughing about, but it was still shocking to think that a pair of people could make off with 28 pairs of shoes, totalling $ 2,277.

The people accused of stealing the shoes were featured on the Lafayette Crime Stoppers page. Police remind residents that shoplifting drives up prices for everyone.

Bag Stuffers at Victoria's Secret Store Stole Thousands in Merchandise

Another Lafayette Crime Stoppers case that caught the attention of Acadiana was the time two women stole from Victoria's Secret at the Mall of Acadiana.

The women entered the Lafayette store, began stuffing lingerie and other items into their bags, and fled.

Officials say they stole more than $6,000 worth of merchandise in August 2025! No word on whether or not they found Victoria's Secret in any of their bags.

Stealing Sacks of Crawfish Right Under the Nose of Harvesters

It's bad enough when someone is so mean as to steal sacks of crawfish from a hard-working crawfisherman, but then to do it right while people are there near the ponds is despicable.

This was the case in March 2025, when Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson says a farmer had sacks of crawfish ready for pickup and transport by farmhands, only to have them allegedly stolen by Scott Stein of Lawtell.

Gibson said at the time, there was a rash of crawfish thefts in and around Acadiana. The man was jailed for the thefts.

People Stealing Ambulances Is Not as Rare As You Might Think

It just seems weird, but it does, home, and it's maybe a little bit more common than we might think.

Our news partners at KATC shared a report about a Crowley man who said he stole an ambulance from a hospital so he could go to another hospital for faster service!!

This incident happened in 2021, and 36-year-old Kerry Cormier of Crowley was arrested for stealing the ambulance. It's not that rare for a story to come out about an ambulance being stolen in Louisiana.

In 2022, a Baton Rouge man stole an ambulance and ended up ramming into a Louisiana State Police cruiser. Another ambulance was stolen in DeSoto Parish in 2025.

The 3 Little Pigs Were Stolen from Mamou

You would think that when someone is bored, they would find something better to do than stealing property, especially the 3 Little Pig statues, but alas, that is not the case.

Back in 2016, our colleagues at Hot 107.9 reported that the 3 Little Pig statues were stolen from a home in Mamou and destroyed! How sad! The bandits didn't destroy the Big Bad Wolf on the roof.

99.9 KTDY's Chris Reed says the house that the pigs were in front of was owned by the city. The 3 pigs had been erected by the Rotary Club.

The great news, following their destruction in 2016, the statues were replaced! Aw, that's wonderful!

The Big Inflatable Duck Was Stolen in Lafayette

The Great Acadiana Running of the Ducks in 2014 was a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana. They put up a giant inflatable duck as an advertisement to encourage people to buy ducks for the fundraiser.

The ducks were then dumped in a body of water, and a variety of prizes were won by people who had ducks cross the finish line first. The suspects were eventually caught.

In all, four people were arrested for felony theft in connection with the caper.

The American Flag Disappeared from Acadiana Dodge?

Another memorable item that was stolen from Lafayette was the giant American flag that flies on a pole in front of Acadiana Dodge.

Anyone driving up and down the Evangeline Thruway near University can see this beautiful flag. You can imagine how upset people were when the flag was taken!

So, what really happened? Well, we're not sure other than we were all talking about it when it happened. The flag was gone for a while from the pole, but was it taken?

We may never know the real story!😂

If we missed any interesting or funny stories about things that have gone missing, be sure to share them with us!
