Weekend Box Office: Again with ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’?
With no new movies opening in wide-release this weekend, there was little to challenge the powerhouse known as ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,’ which earned $16.9 million and easily kept its berth as the top-earning film for the third weekend in a row.
‘The Muppets’ revival also retained its number two slot, taking in $11.2 million, while the Martin Scorsese-directed family drama ‘Hugo’ moved up into third place with $7.6 million.
The animated holiday-themed ‘Arthur Christmas’ stayed in fourth with $7.3 million, and ‘Happy Feet 2′ sang and danced its way into fifth by earning $6 million.
Here’s a list of the top 10 movies at the box office Friday through Sunday with estimated grosses, along with how much each movie has made since its release:
1. ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1′ – $16.9 million, $247.2 million total
2. ‘The Muppets’ – $11.2 million, $56.1 million total
3. ‘Hugo’ – $7.6 million, $25.1 million total
4. ‘Arthur Christmas’ – $7.3 million, $25.2 million total
5. ‘Happy Feet 2′ – $6 million, $51.7 million total
6. ‘Jack and Jill’ – $5.5 million, $64.3 million total
7. ‘The Descendants’ – $5.2 million, $18 million total
8. ‘Immortals’ – $8.8 million, $68.6 million total
9. ‘Tower Heist’ – $4.1 million, $70.7 million total
10. ‘Puss In Boots’ – $3 million, $139.5 million total
