The recent heavy rains are expected to lead to lots more mosquitoes, but there are natural ways to fight back.

Just like we saw after the flood of 2016, mosquitoes are expected to become a problem in the coming weeks and months. There's a ton of chemical treatments for repelling and killing mosquitoes, but there are also numerous natural remedies as well. Here are eight natural mosquito repellents you can add to your arsenal. They may not all work, but they're natural and at least worth a try.

1. Lemon Eucalyptus Oil: the CDC has even admitted that lemon eucalyptus oil is as effective as DEET, the chemical found in most mosquito and insect repellents. You can find repellents made with the oil or buy it yourself and make your own.

2. Catnip: Catnip can be easily grown and kept around your house. You can also rub the leaves on your skin to repel mosquitoes and other bugs.

3. Lemongrass: Lemongrass is also known as citronella, which is found in many mosquito repellent candles and torches. The grass is easily grown and can improve your yard's appearance while keeping the bugs away.

4. Lavender and tea tree oil: Mosquitoes hate the fragrant smell of these oils, so add them to your homemade repellent.

5. Eat garlic: the smell of garlic on your breath and the compounds excreted through your pores after eating garlic are unappealing to mosquitoes.

6. Wear light colors will help keep mosquitoes away since they're attracted to darker colors.

7. Drink less beer when outdoors: some researchers believe drinking beer causes a person to breathe harder and makes their skin warmer, both of which attract mosquitoes.
