Abbeville Fire Department Called Out to Cool Down Bridge

(Abbeville, Louisiana) - The Abbeville Fire Department was called out by the Louisiana Department of Transportation to cool down the drawbridge due to the extreme heat in South Louisiana.

According to a social media post by the Abbeville Fire Dept., firefighters were called out to one of the bridges in the town to help cool it down as temperatures soared this week.

The overheating bridge is made of steel, and steel can expand when overheated; thus, it could not be raised or lowered.

Many on social media were asking why the road was blocked on Tuesday, while firefighters sprayed water on the bridge; now we know why: the bridge simply overheated and was out of commission.

We should note that while firefighters were cooling the bridge down so that it could be raised, a barge was waiting for the bridge to be raised so that it could continue on its journey.
