Paul Rice of Kaplan and Kelvin Davenport of Abbeville were arrested in Abbeville Monday night after police officers say they were stopped as part of a traffic stop at a home near the intersection of N. Lyman Street and E. St. Victor Street.

According to a press release, Abbeville Police Department Public Information Officer Jonathan Touchet says each person tried to run away - in opposite directions. As Rice was running away across N. Lamar Street, officers say he allegedly tried to throw a handgun from his waistband under a home. That's when officers were able to capture him. Davenport was found allegedly trying to hide in a shed behind a home as he tried to escape by running across N. Lyman Street. Officers say they found a handgun near where they captured Davenport, and allegedly found marijuana in his possession as well.

Officers say they later found suspected Methamphetamine in the vehicle.

Both subjects have been booked into the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center on the following charges:

  • Resisting an Officer
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm within a Firearm Free Zone
  • Obstruction of Justice
  • Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a CDS
