Today is the day that has been in the works since 1905.

If you've spent any amount of time in South Louisiana, you've heard about Tony Chachere's Famous Creole Seasoning mix.

Whether you've used it as the main seasoning in your dish or just added a sprinkle to your plate, you've more than likely had a can of the delicious concoction in your kitchen at one time or another.

Today is the day, in the company's 50th year, that Tony Chachere's is opening its (as far as I know) first brick-and-mortar Country Store.

The company's online store has been in operation for several years, but now you'll be able to walk in and put your hands on merchandise in person.

According to KPLC, the grand opening/ribbon cutting is scheduled for 11 am today. It looks like the store will be open in plenty of time for you to grab some holiday gifts for your favorite Cajun (or wanna-be Cajun, for that matter).

Born in 1905, Tony Chachere (yes, he was a real person) honed his cooking skills in the swamps of South Louisiana and soon became known as the "Ole Master" (according to the Tony Chachere website).

Soon after he retired in 1970, Chachere really got to work. He published a cookbook that contained a recipe for a seasoning blend that people really loved. After realizing the blend's popularity, Chachere took it to market - and the rest is history.

Located in front of Tony Chachere's factory in Opelousas, the Country Store is at 5604 I-49 N Service Road, at the corner of I-49 and Creswell Lane.
