The Old Town Slidell Soda Shop is Looking For a New Owner
The Old Town Slidell Soda Shop looking for someone to take it over. The 1960s soda shop replica has hosted thousands of birthday parties, field trips, and summer camps. It’s a place Slidell residents enjoyed many old-fashioned sodas and homemade ice cream. The Old Town Slidell Soda Shop represents a piece of history for the community. After Katrina, the soda shop closed and eventually reopened.
According to their website, all of the ice cream is made there at the soda shop and it’s made with a 14% cream fat ice cream mix. Although they make over 300 different flavors, they can only have 27 out at a time. They serve malts and shakes, Root Beer floats, sundaes, ice cream sodas, and the best banana splits you’ve ever had. Old Town Slidell Soda Shop also offers birthday party packages complete with a soda shop hostess and kids love it.
One of the owners, Morris Hawkins, posted on their Facebook page that Frank Jackson, who owns the building and property has retired. Hawkins says Jackson was the heart and face of the Soda Shop. He then says this has created an opportunity for someone who is willing to carry forward the iconic Slidell landmark as they want to quickly continue its presence in the community.
Let's spread the word and hopefully, someone will keep this little gem open.
