Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, was sentenced to 22 1/2 years in prison.

The Justice Department is already investigating whether the officers involved in Floyd’s death violated Floyd’s civil rights.

Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, addressed the media in the wake of the announcement that Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all charges in the death of George Floyd. In part of her statement, Pelosi thanked George Floyd for, "...sacrificing your life for justice". The statement has social media enraged.

The jury deliberated over parts of two days in a city on edge against another outbreak of unrest.

Our media partners at KATC-TV3 are reporting that the City of Minneapolis, Minnesota is paying the family of George Floyd $27 Million in settlements relating to the wrongful death lawsuit. Floyd died while in police custody in May of 2020, with video evidence showing a police officer kneeling on the man's neck.

Cantrell's statement went on to say, "The City of New Orleans rejects vandalism and the destruction of City property. It is unlawful."

Pending approval by the Board of Supervisors, the name will cease to be Middleton Library

Meanwhile, the body of George Floyd arrived at a church in Houston for a final public memorial.
