Reports say that the announcement was made concerning the permanent end of Cargill's salt production at their mine located in Avery Island, Louisiana. The mine has been operated by the company for twenty-four years and the outlook for its' employees is still uncertain.
The Iberia Parish Coroner's Office has announced the identities of both employees who were tragically killed in the Cargill salt mine roof collapse in Avery Island this past Monday (12/14/20).
I first visited Jungle Gardens at Avery Island when I was about 18-year-old. I was blown away by how beautiful and unique the entire area was. I didn't know anything about the area when I first visited, and when I happened upon the Buddha sanctuary I was floored. It was hard to believe I was still in Louisiana. I got to thinking about the statue today, and decided to learn more about how the Buddha statue found it's way to Avery Island, and here's what I found out.
