One of the newest songs that we play is Gotye's 'Someone That I Used To Know', which, as it turns out, is one of those songs that either you love or you hate (from the people that I have spoken to about the song).

At best (in my opinion), the original video (with its constant face shot) is a little.. er... unnerving.  But I can appreciate the range in his voice.

My friend Carolyn sent me this link (via Facebook) earlier this weekend.... it seems that she found a great SOUNDING cover of the song (as well as a very interesting video) by a band called Walk Off The Earth.  It was this version of Gotye's song that I heard before I heard the original; so when we started playing Gotye on KTDY, I thought to myself "who is this trying to remake the song??"!!  This is one of those strange cases of liking the cover before even hearing the original.  And to see all five of them playing the same guitar??  Cool!!

There are a few 'covers' that I like as much as, if not better than, the originals:  Genesis' version of the Beatles' 'Tomorrow Never Knows'...

Garth Brooks' version of Bob Dylan's 'To Make You Feel My Love':

And (DON'T TELL CJ!!), but I think that the ORIGINAL 'Blue Suede Shoes' by Carl Perkins is MUCH better than Elvis Presley's!!

What's your favorite "remake" of a popular song?
