Do you feel that Daylight Saving Time is beneficial to us, or is it useless?

For some reason, Daylight Saving Time came up in conversation today. It got me thinking. Why do we still need it? I've heard inklings of getting rid of it. There are areas of the US that don't recognize it, and just go on with their lives.

I always thought it has something to do with farming. After a quick google, I found no mention of farming. It seems like it's essentially just to make people feel better about the time when the sun is going up and down. According to

The idea was first advocated seriously by London builder William Willett (1857-1915) in the pamphlet, "Waste of Daylight" (1907), that proposed advancing clocks 20 minutes on each of four Sundays in April, and retarding them by the same amount on four Sundays in September. As he was taking an early morning a ride through Petts Wood, near Croydon, Willett was struck by the fact that the blinds of nearby houses were closed, even though the sun was fully risen. When questioned as to why he didn't simply get up an hour earlier, Willett replied with typical British humor, "What?"

Also, I always thought it was Daylight Savings Time. Apparently it's a common misspelling, and is indeed Daylight Saving Time, without the "S."

So, what are your thoughts?
