Severe Weather Threat Looming For Most Of Louisiana Today

The Storm Prediction Center is suggesting that Louisiana residents remain weather conscious for another 24 to 36 hours as another strong system moves across the area. Currently, the SPC has placed much of the state in the slight risk category for severe weather during the day Tuesday and into Tuesday evening.

Strong gusty winds will again be part of the forecast for much of the state today with a threat of tornadoes. The greatest threat of tornado development will be in northeastern Louisiana and into Mississippi.

Rainfall amounts across the state should generally be a half inch or less. However, locally heavier amounts are possible in some of the heavier downpours. The catalyst for all of the heavy weather is an approaching cold front. This system is expected to cross the state during the day today and exit the state by early Wednesday morning.

The greatest threat for severe weather in the Lafayette and Lake Charles area will come late this afternoon and into the early evening hours. Rain chances should elevate from 50% during the midday to 80% for the nighttime hours. Once the potential squall line and the frontal system passes cooler weather will move into the area for the next several days.
