According to Associated Press (AP), Tuesday, January 26, 2021, San Francisco's school board has voted to remove the names Washington and Lincoln from all public schools as the board deemed them "unworthy of the honor".

Many locals agree there are more pressing issues locally and in the world, but the San Francisco school board disagrees, claiming that it is the perfect time to deal with racial issues to heal the country and move the country forward.

I must admit there are reasons to support this resolution, but I can't. The process has been flawed and based on emotion rather than expertise. These are not decisions that should be made in hast.-Community member Jean Barish

Some families 100% approve of removing the names Washington and Lincoln from school names. Parents say they've been upset for years over the fact that their children have been wearing school uniforms with the names of slave owners on them.

The San Francisco school board officials also voted Sen. Dianne Feinstein as unworthy of the honor. Therefore, in a vote of 6-1 Tuesday, the city will be renaming 44 schools.

It will be interesting to see how school boards around the country respond to San Francisco's decision.

Also, how will the West Coast decision impact historical places such as the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial both in Washington, D.C.? And will George Washington and Abraham Lincoln's faces be removed from Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of Keystone, South Dakota?

The San Franciso school board's decision might seem benign on the surface, but the implications may be felt around the country.
