New Orleans Saints' offensive line coach Aaron Kromer will get a taste of being an NFL head coach for the first 6 weeks of the 2012 season. He's downplaying the role, even though he interviewed for head coaching jobs with the Rams and Colts.

Kromer says he's not auditioning. Assistant head coach Joe Vitt was named interim head when Head coach Sean Payton was suspended for the entire 2012 campaign in the wake of the alleged Bounty Scandal, which is being challenged by linebacker Jonathan Vilma in federal court.

"I'm going to hold this thing over until Joe Vitt gets back. I'm going to hold the fort. It's important that Drew Brees feels this is Sean Payton's program. This is the way we do things. This is the way we did it in 2009 to win the Super Bowl. This is the way we did it in 2011 to win 14 football games. This is the formula that we have followed to have success. ... I'm a fill-in for the fill-in."     -Aaron Kromer

Vitt will serve a 6 game suspension for his role.  Lineman Zach Strief said, "He's certainly a very calm sideline presence on game day, which players love."  The Saints have a week 6 'bye, which means Vitt will return to the sidelines on week 8.
