Rockefeller Refuge To Close For Alligator Harvest

One of our favorite get away from it all spots is Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge. The refuge spans almost 30 miles of Louisiana coastline from Cameron Parish to Vermilion Parish. It's a favorite spot for fishermen, crabbers, and shrimpers or just anyone who really loves seeing natures beauty done with a Louisiana flair.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has announced that the Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge will be closing this week. The dates of the closing are listed as September 4th through the 11th. The reason for the closure is for the annual alligator harvest.

The refuge will close until noon each day on the days listed above. Folks like you and I can return to the refuge at noon each day and we can stay until official sundown. During the morning hours, alligator trappers with valid tags will be allowed to harvest as many of the reptiles as they can, assuming they have the tags for them.

The delayed opening of Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge will end either on September 11th or when all of the alligator tags issued for the harvest have been used. After that time the refuge will resume normal hours of operation.
