Rihanna Sets Date for 2018 Diamond Ball, Salutes Barbados First Female Prime Minister
Rihanna and Clara Lionel Foundation are planning another star-studded Diamond Ball event. According to HipHopDX, invitations have been sent out for the fourth annual charity soiree.
The event is set for Sept. 13 in New York at Cipriani Wall Street restaurant. All proceeds will benefit RiRi’s Clara Lionel Foundation which provides healthcare and education to impoverished communities across the globe.
Last year’s funnyman Dave Chappelle was the host with Kendrick Lamar performing. Among the celebrities attendance was JAY-Z and Beyoncé, Cardi B, Young Thug, Black Thought, Future and Lil Kim, among others.
Meanwhile, Rihanna is very happy with the new political change in her native island of Barbados. Last week, former attorney Mia Amor Mottley won the election to become the first-ever female prime minster of Barbados.
RiRi went on Twitter to salute Mottley on her victory. "Say hello to my new prime minister and most importantly the FIRST FEMALE prime minister of Barbados ... the honorable Prime Minister @mamottley," she wrote. "Well deserved and about time! breaking barriers and making history in so many ways!!! Congratulations."
The 52-year-old lawyer, and leader of the Barbados Labour Party, is the Caribbean island's first female ruler since gaining independence from Britain in 1966. Over the past decade, the island had been governed by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, a member of the Democratic Labour Party. Under his leadership, the island has gone through an overbearingly long economic strife.
In her victory speech, Mottley vowed to bring the island back to economic prosperity. “There should be no time for gloating. We are all one people. We are Barbadians. We will need many hands to help make light work. We will rebuild Barbados together,” Mottley said. “We have to get to the task immediately," she told her supporters.
