Pushing The Button At A Pedestrian Crossing Is Pointless
Do you ever push the pedestrian button at an intersection because you're in a hurry? Guess what! That button doesn't do anything. It's the technological equivalent of a placebo, according to the New York Times. The Americans With Disabilities Act did away with them in 1990. Why is it there? The answer is simple. It gives people a false sense of empowerment. By the way, I'll bet the thermostat in your office is hardwired. The one in the KTDY broadcast studio is, much to my chagrin.
