President Barack Obama is set to visit flood-ravaged areas of Louisiana early next week.

Multiple news agencies are reporting Obama will be in Baton Rouge sometime on Tuesday.

The president's visit comes after criticism that he would not end his vacation in Martha's Vineyard.

Gov. John Bel Edwards has defended the president's absence by commending the federal government's response to flood relief efforts.

In a statement from the White House Obama's staffers said, "The president is mindful of the impact that his travel has on first responders and wants to ensure that his presence does not interfere with ongoing recovery efforts."

The release also said Obama is eager to eager to see the impact of the floods and to meet with officials.
