I love a good military reunion story so of course, when I saw this feel-good story about a New Iberia four-year-old I knew I had to share it.

Makai Benjamin has been without his mom for the last nine months. Makai’s mom, Marquisha Arceneaux, has been stationed in Kuwait with the United States Army for almost a year.

Since the day she left the two have been counting down the days until they would be reunited. However, yesterday that dream became a reality.

Marquisha landed in Baton Rouge early yesterday morning and headed straight to Makai’s school to see her son.

"Momma!" Benjamin yelled as Marquisha Arceneaux came through his classroom door.

"This is my mommy," Benjamin said as he introduced her to the class.

Marquisha held onto her son while she cried tears of joy for being able to return home to him. Marquisha has been a Specialist 88M Truck Driver for the Army for eight years. This was the first time she was away from her son.

While Marquisha is glad to be home she is very thankful for the amazing people that she has surrounded her family with that helped out while she was gone.

"I'm grateful that I was able to have a great support system, there was a lot of single mothers out there, and it was tough. The biggest thing is having a support system that are there for you 100 percent so you don't have to worry about anything," Arceneaux said.
