Images Of Lafayette Used For National Stories [Gallery]
When we are searching for stories to post on our website, we try to find pictures to use that relate to our stories. According to copyright laws, we can't just 'pull' any picture from online, we have to have permission to use the pictures that we post. Our corporate office has partnered with a few other media sites, giving us permission to use their photographs. We never know which images will come up when we do a search, nor do we know who will be in them. For example, when Debbie Ray was doing a story about the Morganza Spillway being opened up last year, she searched for a photo, and guess who was in the first one that popped up? Yup, Debbie Ray and her husband! How random is that?
Anyway, this morning, I thought to myself "what would I find if I searched one these sites for Lafayette, Louisiana?"
Well, I searched, and here, listed by 'most recent', are the pictures that I found:
The first one is when Presidential Candidate Rick Santorum visited Lafayette.....
The next picture that came up was from UL's trip to the New Orleans Bowl, December 17, 2011....
The next picture available was from the Economic Survival Rally held at the Cajundome on July 21, 2010....
The next picture is a shot that was taken as Bianca Yasmen James (L), of Lafayette, celebrates after she successfully spelled a word during the 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee competition June 3, 2010 in Washington, DC. She participated in the annual competition to become the best spelling bee of the year.
The next picture was another one taken in New Orleans, on May 1, 2010, featuring Pearl Jam's Jazz Fest Performance. It was being broadcast 'live' to Miltary in Iraq. The reason that Lafayette, LA gets credit on the picture is because they had introduced the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, consisting of Louisiana National Guard based in Lafayette, LA. Command Sergeant Major Edward Daigle, stationed in Iraq (on big screen), spoke with his son, Blake Daigle, Austin Ryan, son of Terrence Ryan, Darelene Sullivan mother of Dwayne Chiasson and Landon Chiasson, son of Dwayne Chiasson (on stage). A dang good reason to credit Lafayette, Louisiana, and a great gesture by Pearl Jam to allow this to happen during their performance!!
This next image is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, February 6, 2010. Its Alan Mesh of Lafayette, Louisiana (l) and Todd Diaz of Indianapolis, Indiana walking on Fort Lauderdale Beach. Super Bowl XLIV between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints was held the next day.
The next picture is of Lil Wayne performing at the Cajundome on January 8, 2010.
This next photo coming up in the search was of the game between UL Lafayette vs LSU on September 19, 2009. I found it strange that, of the 33 pictures from this game that appeared in the search results for Lafayette, Louisiana, only 5 of the pictures featured a Ragin' Cajun. The rest of the pictures featured ONLY members of LSU. Hmmmmm... do I smell FAVORITISM?? Ha!
The final image that came up in the Lafayette, Louisiana search on Getty Images was this one: a field, just south of Lafayette, flooded from Hurricane Gustav.
I thought that there would be more recent photographs featuring Lafayette on the site, but I guess that we have been behaving enough to not get the mass media down here to take pictures!!
Something tells me, though, that the Editor at Getty Images might be a true Cajun at heart: with the same search results, I clicked on the 'Sort' button, and instead of 'Most Recent', I chose 'Editor's Choice'. Here is the first picture that popped up!
GEAUX CAJUNS!!!!
