My Coronavirus Experience: Day 4
I had COVID-19. I am 99% certain of where and when I contracted the virus (with the help of contact tracers; more on that later). I had ups and downs while the virus ran its course (mostly downs). I lost my appetite. I lost weight. I lost "friends". Here is Day 4 of my story.
I woke on Day 4 with fever, body aches, headache, chills, and a slight tickle in my throat. I called the Lafayette General Walk-In Clinic in Youngsville to set up an appointment (due to COVID-19, they are asking people to call ahead or set up appointments on their website).
When I arrived, a nurse called to finish my check-in, and then came out to administer the COVID-19 swab for testing. After that was done, I was escorted inside to be assessed by a doctor.
After the doctor's assessment, I was prescribed meds and sent home to await the results of the COVID-19 swab. Instructions were clear: stay home, away from others. Treat your symptoms (fever reducer, cough drops for the throat, etc) and if you develop any breathing difficulties, call 911 or head to the nearest emergency room.
I went home with meds and went to bed. For the rest of the day and into the night, the fever would spike about every 2 hours and bring a 15-20 minute bout of chills with it. It felt like my whole body was bruised or sore - it hurt to even move around.
Sleep did not come easily that night due to the fever, chills, and muscle aches.
