According to a press release that was published on the V.B. Glencoe Charter School Facebook page, an 18-wheeler sideswiped a school bus Tuesday afternoon. The incident happened at Louisiana Highway 83 and Cypremort Road, and the 18-wheeler just kept on driving.

The St. Mary Parish school reports that thankfully there were no injuries. Officials at the school report that they are very proud of their entire staff for their response to this incident after they activated their Emergency Response Plan.

After the incident happened, the bus driver pulled over to the side of the road. At that point, all the children were checked out by medical professionals to make sure they were okay.

Students were then put on another bus and taken to the Baldwin Civic Center where they were able to be picked up by their parents.

A whole host of first responders were on the scene to help the students.

Officials had the following statement for students, parents, and faculty,

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to them for their calm demeanor and adherence to safety protocols.

Officials say that faculty members stayed with the students to make sure that they were safely reunited with their families.

The bus involved in the incident was bus 14 which was formerly bus 4. Officials did not comment further on speculating as to why the driver of the 18-wheeler didn't stop at the scene.

We will follow up with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office to ask about the investigation into the incident with proceed, and to find out if they have any information about the 18-wheeler truck or who was operating it at the time.
