Louisiana Preparing for Arctic Air Just Before Christmas
If you love cold weather in the Deep South, you may love our weather news.
As many of us prepare for Christmas, we will have Spring-like weather into the new week, but by next weekend we could see a big change in temperatures. The coldest air thus far this winter will move in and it may be a good idea to start making preparations around your house.
Arctic air is expected to push into the southern region of the country and one weather forecast is calling for temperatures to drop into the upper 20s, just days before Christmas.
So yes, it will feel like the holidays by next weekend and you will want to have the thick jackets out by the end of next week.
The extended forecast does call for temperatures to warm up by Christmas, but before that, you will certainly feel the chill in the air. Again, those with pets, tender vegetation, and even exposed pipes around the house may want to start early preparations for falling temperatures.
I would also like to remind you to practice fire safety as colder days and nights approach next week. We have reported on several house fires in recent weeks and many have been started by heaters and warming blankets.
It is also a great time to make sure that the batteries in your fire alarms are working and that your family has an escape plan in the event of a fire at your home.
Here's a quick look at what we can expect to move in just days before Christmas, and for those of us who love colder weather, we hope it sticks around for Santa's arrival.
