Louisiana Meteorologist Addresses How he Will Reference ‘Gulf’
The name of the body of water south of Louisiana has been a hot topic in recent weeks, and now, one local meteorologist has addressed how he will refer to it in the future.
Shortly after taking office, President Trump announced that the United States would rename the "Gulf of Mexico" to the "Gulf of America."
As we expected, some supported the idea, while others did not.
In some of his forecasts at KATC TV-3, Rob Perillo referenced the body of water as the "Gulf of Mexico," and some viewers questioned why he didn't refer to it as the "Gulf of America."
According to Rob's post on social media, viewers sent emails, comments on social media and even called the station in Lafayette to question his reference to the body of water, so he's decided to just refer to the body of water south of Louisiana as, "The Gulf."
Therefore, when a storm is brewing or approaching the state during hurricane season, you will likely hear Rob say that the storm "In The Gulf" is approaching or strengthening.
You will not hear Rob mention "The Gulf of Mexico" or "The Gulf of America" in his forecasts, and this is likely being done to avoid controversy.
In a recent statement, Google Maps announced that they will soon rename the "Gulf of Mexico" to the "Gulf of America." Again, some support this idea, while others do not, including several Mexican officials.
Let's note that Google plans to display the name "Gulf of America" for users in the United States while retaining "Gulf of Mexico" for users in Mexico. For users in other countries, both names may be displayed.
Now, let's take a look at Rob's post addressing how he will reference the body of water that so many of us love and even work in.
